Tartuffe

or The Impostor, or The Hypocrite

Written by Molière
In a new translation by Ranjit Bolt

After a long hibernation, the Department of Theatre's production of Tartuffe is rested and ready for its virtual premiere! This safely staged, pre-recorded production will be available for on-demand streaming on May 5th, 2021 at 7pm MST.

In Molière’s timeless satire of religious hypocrisy, vice becomes virtue—or is it the other way around? Falling under the spell of sly con artist Tartuffe, wealthy bourgeois Orgon risks his estate and his family to harbor the pious vagabond. But not all are so easily fooled, and when their guest reveals his true colors, the household is thrown into chaos.

This vital, audacious, and clever translation by Ranjit Bolt delivers Moliere's dark comedy through a contemporary lens, bringing human frailty into sharp focus, and exploring how truth can be blurred by the quest for power.
