David Knoell

Production Manager

David Knoell is Production Manager for the Department of Theatre at the University of Utah. 

Professionally, David works in Salt Lake theatres as an actor and stage manager and is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association. He is also the Production Stage Manager for Performing Arts Educators, which produces annual choir and dance concerts in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. 

In addition to acting and stage management, David spent more than a decade working as a producer, director, writer, and musician in Chicago. He created and produced shows for The Second City Training Center, The Playground Theatre, and Stage 773. Additionally, his work has been seen on stage at Chicago Dramatists, The Pub Theatre, iO Theatre, Studio B, Strawdog Theatre, ComedySportz, and Oak Park Festival Theatre. David remains a board member for two Chicago theatre companies: Equity Library Theatre and Cat's Cradle. 

Prior to moving to Chicago, David worked as a professional actor in Orlando, Florida in theatre (Orlando Rep, Mad Cow Theatre) and theme parks (Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World) and performed in the long-running hit Tony and Tina's Wedding. David has adapted, created, and directed scripts for immersive and interactive theatre. Fringe festivals are his favorite form of live theatre. He has been involved as an actor, director, and producer for festivals in locations throughout North America, including Orlando, Chicago, New York City, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Montreal, and Calgary. 

Equally passionate for education, David has been dedicated to serving students for over fifteen years. He has taught and directed theatre students at the University of Central Florida, City Colleges of Chicago, Concordia University, University of Nebraska, New York Film Academy, University of Utah, Weber State University, Salt Lake Community College, Westminster College, Utah Valley University, and Lake Forest College where has also served as Technical Director. 

David has BAs in Theatre and English from the University of Nebraska and an MFA in Theatre Performance from University of Central Florida.
