Nicholas Dunn is a writer, actor, filmmaker and teacher based in Salt Lake City. As an actor, he has appeared on stage at Pioneer Theatre Company (Lost in Yonkers, Othello, Noises Off, Romeo & Juliet, 42nd Street), the Old Lyric Rep Company (Amadeus, Big River, Private Lives, Mousetrap, Blithe Spirit, Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged), The Grand Theatre (Inherit the Wind, Noises Off, The 39 Steps), the Simon Festival (Come Blow Your Horn), Wasatch Theatre Company (Wit, Dinner), and Pinnacle Acting Company (The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Mauritius), and on film with Magnolia Pictures, Hallmark, the WB, KUED, and a number of commercials and industrials, including Verizon, Microsoft, and the NBA.
As a writer and filmmaker, he is the winner of the Risk Theatre Modern Tragedy Competition and the Marius P. Hanford Award for Playwriting. His plays have been produced or workshopped at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Salt Lake Acting Company, Kingsbury Hall, Wasatch Theatre Company, Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts, Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival, Riot Act Inc, Pittsburgh Playhouse, the Canadian Plaything, Loft Ensemble, Langham Court Theatre, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Rio Theatre, Westminster University, the University of Utah, the Rockaway Theatre Company, and DramaWorks Theatre School in Budapest, Hungary. He has written and directed several short films and commercial campaigns, including the award-winning short films Art and Face to Face, and the award-winning commercial spot I Am Downtown for the Salt Lake Downtown Alliance. He also works in the film industry as a script coordinator and script supervisor with many networks and studios, including HBO, Vineyard, BYUTV, and CryptTV. His screenplay Thanks Dad was recently purchased by Reintree Films/1550 Films. Nicholas is also an owner of Overcranked Pictures LLC, where he has written, shot, and/or directed a number of films, commercials, industrials, and music videos.
Nick holds a AS in theatre and film studies from Utah State Eastern, a BFA in acting from the University of Utah, and an MFA in Playwriting & Screenwriting from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, and was a participant in the Salt Lake Film Society's Screenwriter’s Program, co-sponsored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. He is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
