FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Classical Greek Theatre Festival presents Euripides’ Helen September 22, 23, 29 and 30 on the University campus, outdoors on the lawn north of the Performing Arts Building (just west of the Campus Bookstore).  Performances begin at 9:00 am, with an informative pre-show talk, sponsored by the Utah Humanities Council,  by Professor James Svendsen beginning at 8:30 am each day.  Tickets are $12 general admission, $9 University faculty and staff, and $6 students, and are available through Kingsbury Ticket Office, 581-7100 or www.kingtix.com.

In this fourth play in our series concerning the Trojan War, we meet a surprising Helen who never made it to Troy, having been kidnapped from Sparta and a “fake” Helen left behind to begin the epic 10-year war between Sparta and Troy.  We join the real Helen in Egypt, as she waits for news of her husband, Menelaus, and fends off marriage to the new Egyptian king, Theoclymenos.   A blend of tragedy and comedy, Euripides gives us a Helen who deserves more praise than censure.  Join us for our 37th foray into the world of classical Greek theatre.
