The following information will get you started in exploring the opportunities we offer:
Welcome to the exciting world of the University of Utah Department of Theatre. We offer academic rigor and artistic excellence as you learn from faculty who are both master teachers and working professionals. Our facilities include two theatres: the Babcock Theatre (our main stage with a season of five shows per year), and Studio 115 (an experimental black box with seven productions a year). The Department of Theatre also sponsors environmental and experimental performances, including the outdoor Classical Greek Theatre Festival, and new works by professionals and students, as well as productions for young audiences. The Pioneer Theatre Company – a professional theatre—is also located on our campus.
As a theatre major, you may pursue a degree in one of four different areas of emphasis:
BA - Theatre Studies BFA Actor Training Program (acceptance by audition only) BFA - Performing Arts Design Program BFA - Stage Management
All majors complete a theatre core, which helps create a common foundation and a close-knit atmosphere for all of our students. Your learning will come not just from our talented, experienced faculty but also from the talented, diverse students who will be taking this educational journey with you. Outstanding resources are available through the Department and across campus to help you achieve success and accomplish your educational goals.
