In Euripides’ surprising take on the
tale, Helen was never in Troy, having been spirited away from Sparta
and a fake Helen left in her place to be kidnapped and taken to
Troy, thus touching off the 10-year war. We uncover the fate of the
real Helen, as she waits in Egypt for news of her husband and fends
off a marriage to the Egyptian king. This show is performed outdoors
in the morning, beginning at 9 am, with an informative pre-show
lecture beginning at 8:30 am. Performances will be north of the
Performing Arts Building on the University campus, just west of the
Campus Bookstore. The show will also tour to Weber State University,
Westminster College, and Brigham Young University.

In this fourth play in our series
concerning the Trojan War, we meet a surprising Helen who never made
it to Troy, having been kidnapped from Sparta and a “fake” Helen
left behind to begin the epic 10-year war between Sparta and Troy.
We join the real Helen in Egypt, as she waits for news of her
husband, Menelaus, and fends off marriage to the new Egyptian king,
Theoclymenos. A blend of tragedy and comedy, Euripides gives us a
Helen who deserves more praise than censure. Join us for our
37th foray into the world of classical Greek theatre.
