Barbara Smith
Acting for Majors and Non-Majors

Barbara received
both her B.F.A. and M.F.A. degree in Theatre at the University of Utah.
She currently teaches in the Department of Theatre and serves as ArtsBridge
Director. Her directing credits include The Hollow, Bus Stop,
Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, Picnic,
and Antigone for the Classical Greek Theatre Festival. She has
also directed her adaptations of Shakespeares Macbeth,
The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, and Julius Caesar. As
an actress, she has performed numerous roles not only for the Department
of Theatre but also at other venues locally and regionally. She has performed
in The Bakkhai, Trojan Women, Iphegenia at Aulis,
The Cherry Orchard, The Night of the Iguana, Equus,
A Lie of the Mind, Anna Christie, The Crucible, A
Moon for the Misbegotten, and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
She is the 2001 recipient of the Kenneth H. Washington Scholarship.
