Amy Oakeson

Amy Oakeson is the Artistic Director of the Youth
Theatre at the U, a performing arts training program for young people ages
5 through 18 at the University of Utah. She received her B.F.A. in Theatre
Education from the University of Utah and her M.A. in Child Drama from San
Diego State University.
Ms. Oakeson was formerly the Director of the children's theatre program (JICompany)
at the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla, California, and an instructor
for San Diego Junior Theatre, the oldest children's theatre program in the
country. Concurrently, Ms. Oakeson worked at the La Jolla Playhouse as a
Dramaturg and had the opportunity to work with directors such as Julie
Taymor, Les Waters, David Warren and Michael Greif.
This past year, Ms. Oakeson has presented workshops and original
productions created by students and staff of the Youth Theatre at the U
program at the Carrefour International 2004 du Theatre d'Enfants in
Valenciennes, France; the 2004 American Alliance for Theatre in Education
Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah; and the Children's Theatre of the
World Festival in San Diego, California. In July of 2005, Ms. Oakeson and
her students presented and performed at the American Alliance for Theatre
in Education Conference in Chicago, Illinois, where she also received the
AATE Youth Theatre Director of the Year award for 2005.
Ms. Oakeson teaches courses in Young People's Theatre and Musical Theatre
for the Department of Theatre.
