Gage Williams

In addition
to teaching courses in set design, scenography, and production design
for film/video for the Department of Theatre, Gage is the Resident Set
Designer for the Idaho Shakespeare Festival in Boise, Idaho. Gage's regional
theatre and opera scenic design credits include Great Lakes Theatre Festival,
Pioneer Theatre Company, Actors Theatre of Phoenix, Childsplay, and Utah
Opera. For television he has art directed productions for ABC, CBS, NBC,
FOX, HBO, SHOWTIME, ESPN, DISNEY, VH-1, and MTV.
Gage received a CableACE Award for Art Direction on the SHOWTIME film
Mastergate, and his set designs for Anne of Green Gables at Childsplay
in Arizona, and Hamlet at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival were selected
for the US design exhibit at the 1999 and 2003 Prague Quadrennial Stage
Design Exposition in the Czech Republic. Gage holds a Master of Fine Arts
degree from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from Arizona State University. He is a member of United Scenic
Artist Local829, the American Academy of Television Arts and Science,
and USITT.
At the University
of Utah Gage, has designed both sets and costumes for the Babcock and
Lab Theatres, and for both the Classical Greek Theatre Tour and Salt Lake
Shakespeare. In 2000 he was awarded a University of Utah John R. Park
Teaching Fellowship, too develop a new design course in production design
for film and television. Gages set design students have received
numerous awards at the American College Theatre Festival, including recognition
at both the regional and national festivals.
Most recently Gage was the Assistant Set designer on the Tony Award winner
and Broadway premiere of Def Poetry Jam, and the art director on
Star Search 2003 for CBS.
