David Dynak
Theatre Education

From 1998 to 2004, Dr. Dynak served as Chair of the Department
of Theatre. He also directs the BFA Theatre Education Program and teaches
components of the U's arts curriculum required of all preservice elementary
teachers. Before coming to the University of Utah, he served for four
years as Head of the Integrated Creative Arts minor at Western Michigan
University. He has a Ph.D. in theatre, an M.A. in Educational Foundations,
and a B.A. in English--all from Michigan State University.
Dr. Dynak has extensive teaching experience from pre-K to graduate school.
He has been involved in a host of curriculum development projects for
school districts, in research, and in program and policy development for
national and international arts-in-education organizations.
Dr. Dynak is deeply involved in new work development. For the past six
years, he has been a member of the administrative team of the acclaimed
Sundance Theatre Lab. He has also facilitated and mentored original works
as Director of the U's ArtsBridge
Program (see also the national
ArtsBridge
America website). Since the early 80s, he has collaborated with arts
educators on the development of performance-based theatre festivals for
secondary students in Europe and the United States.
