The Babcock Theatre at the University of Utah presents The Diary of Anne Frank September 26 through October 6.  Wendy Kesselman’s new adaptation of this enduring and important play will run September 26-29 and October 3-6 at 7:30 pm, September 30 at 7:00 pm, with a 2:00 pm matinee on Saturday, October 6. An ASL interpreter will be available at the performance on Friday, September 28.  There will be an encore performance at 7:00 pm in Kingsbury Hall on October 9. A free panel discussion sponsored by the University of Utah’s International Studies Program and the United Jewish Federation of Utah will precede the performance on Thursday, September 27, beginning at 6:00 pm.  Panel members include Dr. Janet Kaufman of the University of Utah’s Department of English, Dr. Ronald Smelser of the U’s Department of History and local author Eileen Hallet Stone.   All are welcome to attend this informative discussion.

 

 

This immensely popular and enduring play is based on the diary of a 13-year-old Jewish girl who spent 25 months in hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam during World War II.  The book, originally published in 1947, is considered one of the key texts of the 20th century.  This show will tour to Kingsbury Hall for a special encore evening performance, October 9 at 7PM.

The general schedule for Babcock productions is Wednesday through Sunday the first the first week of the run, Thursday through Sunday the second week.  Wednesday through Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm; Sunday performances are at 7:00 pm; and there is a 2:00 pm matinee on the second Saturday of each run. 

 

[NOTE:  The Diary of Anne Frank will not follow the general schedule.  This play will not be performed in the Babcock the second Sunday, but there will be an encore performance in Kingsbury Hall at 7:00 pm on October 9.]
